Portland is the second largest man made harbour in the World, and the chosen site for the 2012 Olympic sailing events. As it was a Royal Naval Harbour until 10 years ago private sailing and cruising had little opportunity to develop. This situation is rapidly changing and gathering momentum.

Portland Harbour has a small tidal range, so no waiting for lock gates or high water, and minimal current together with a large sheltered sailing area.

Yachtsmen have found Portland to be the ideal base for cruising to the West Country, Channel Islands and French coast.

A number of Swinging moorings are available for the 2007 season.

Owners can join the Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy (WPNSA) and benefit from vast public expenditure on Olympic facilities.

The sailing season is from the 1^st of April to the 30^thSeptember. Yachts may be then lifted out on to hard standing at the WPNSA for winter maintenance and storage.

Swinging moorings are located approximately 200m from the sailing academy pontoon. These are charged at £50 per metre plus £50 harbour dues per season. Please phone for prices regarding short stay.
